Psychotherapy

Cumberland Island, Georgia

I’ve enjoyed the therapy side of psychiatry since I first experienced it in medical school, and I was lucky enough to train in a residency program that fostered learning and first-hand experience in a number of therapeutic modalities. Psychotherapy comes in many shapes and forms—from classic couch-based analysis to more modern, guided forms of treatment like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Talk therapy of all types centers on a few common goals, including increased self-awareness, the ability to explore and question the ways our brains work and the ways we habitually behave, and learning skills that allow us to be more flexible and adaptable to meet the challenges life throws at us. With few exceptions, psychiatric treatment goes better when therapy is included as part of the overall plan.

I generally offer therapy in conjunction with medication or functional/integrative treatment, although I will occasionally work with someone who just wants talk therapy. Sessions are developed collaboratively based on your goals, style preferences, and personal history. I tend to take an eclectic approach to therapy—while we can do a very formal style of treatment if you prefer, I like to meld various tools I’ve learned and also make plenty of space for intuition, creativity, mindfulness, and even movement and art. I also believe strongly in the healing power of the relationship in therapy, and often use that as a guide in my approach. We will meet weekly or every other week, and follow-up session rates are slightly lower to reflect this frequency of appointments. Our work together will begin with a standard intake evaluation based on your specific situation (see the medical treatment page for more details on this).

Intake (75-120 minutes): $600-800

Follow-up (50 minutes, weekly or biweekly): $300
